Your rights as a patient
- 01
Receive a written copy of these Patient Rights and Responsibilities from reception, the medical center's management, or the customer-relations contact. If you need anything explained, please ask us — and ask for an interpreter if that helps.
- 02
Receive impartial care that respects your personal values, beliefs, and culture, free of discrimination, and in line with the rules of the Sharjah Health Authority (SHA).
- 03
Receive comprehensive medical care aimed at the correct diagnosis and treatment of your concern.
- 04
Receive immediate attention in a genuine emergency.
- 05
Know the name and specialty of the doctor responsible for your care, and of anyone else taking part in it.
- 06
Receive, in plain language, a clear explanation of your diagnosis, the proposed treatment plan, any changes to that plan, the reasons for changes, alternatives, the likely benefits and risks, anything we cannot guarantee, and the expected results of treatment.
- 07
Have an interpreter present, where available, if language makes it hard to understand your treatment.
- 08
Refuse to be examined or treated by anyone at the medical center, for any reason — for example, if you are not comfortable with the assigned doctor. You can ask for someone else as long as that does not delay urgent care.
- 09
Take part in decisions about your care. We encourage you, and a guardian or family member you trust if you wish, to share in planning and choosing your treatment together with the doctor and care team.
- 10
Obtain, on request, a written copy of your medical record and the results of your treatment, in line with the Sharjah Health Authority's records rules.
- 11
Expect privacy during every examination, procedure, and treatment at the medical center, and confidentiality for all of your information.
- 12
Choose your treating doctor, where availability allows, and feel free to ask for a second opinion.
- 13
Refuse a recommended treatment. If you do, the treating doctor will explain the medical consequences of refusing so that you can sign a clear, informed refusal.
- 14
Refuse examination or access to your treatment by anyone not directly involved — for example, observers. We will only allow them with your written permission.
- 15
Be protected from any physical, verbal, or psychological harm during your time at the medical center.
- 16
Receive information about organ or tissue donation, including its advantages and disadvantages, if it is ever relevant to your care.
- 17
Have a family member or guardian act on your behalf, in line with Sharjah Health Authority rules, when your health does not allow you to decide for yourself.
- 18
Receive a full explanation of the reasons for any transfer to another medical center, hospital, or specialist — including the financial and administrative implications — and of the alternatives available. We will only proceed with a transfer after the receiving party has agreed to accept you.
- 19
Receive, on request, an itemised bill that explains every charge — whether you are paying yourself, through someone else, or through insurance.
- 20
Voice complaints, suggestions, and comments about the medical center to its management or by writing to info@hayamc.com. You can also raise concerns with the Sharjah Health Authority via sha.shj.ae.
- 21
Review your medical record under the supervision of your treating doctor or a member of the medical center's staff, in line with our records policy.
- 22
Have your pain properly assessed and managed through evidence-based practice, with all relevant information shared with you.
- 23
Be informed by your treating doctor of any scientific research conducted by the Sharjah Health Authority that pertains to your treatment — including the potential benefits, risks, therapeutic alternatives, and study protocol details.
- 24
Choose freely whether to take part in clinical research. You may decline at the outset, or withdraw at any point during the study, without affecting your usual care.
- 25
If your care becomes terminal, receive considerate and compassionate care that respects your dignity and individual needs — in line with the standards of the Sharjah Health Authority.
Your responsibilities as a patient
- 01
Respect the medical center's rules and the way it is run.
- 02
Treat other patients and the team around you with consideration and respect.
- 03
Respect the privacy and comfort of other patients.
- 04
Give us complete and accurate information about your current concern, your past illnesses, any previous hospitalisations or treatments, and any known allergies.
- 05
Follow the doctor's instructions for your treatment.
- 06
Give us your written, informed consent before any minor surgery, anaesthesia, or procedure that requires prior consent under Sharjah Health Authority rules — after you have received all the information you need about the risks and what to expect.
- 07
Take responsibility for refusing, or for not following, the treatment plan — and for the consequences of that choice.
- 08
Avoid delays in booking appointments with the medical center's records / scheduling team once we ask you to.
- 09
Show up for your appointment on time. If you need to cancel, please tell us at least 48 hours in advance.
- 10
Respect the priority given to emergency cases.
- 11
Follow our safety rules — including the no-smoking policy, keeping the medical center clean, good hand hygiene, and similar standards.
- 12
Settle the agreed financial obligations with the medical center promptly, if any are due from you.
- 13
Request a copy of these rights and check on them from time to time.
- 14
Avoid bringing valuables to the medical center. We will not be responsible for damage to or loss of belongings, but in an emergency our nurses and medical center staff will keep them safe in the presence of a member of the security team.
- 15
Keep a copy of these rights and confirm that they match what was explained to you. We are not responsible for consequences that result from not following the above instructions.
